Floyd Rose bridge is good more lead guitar players because the bridge itself
harness the potential of your strings. But it so much pain to tune for
the bridge itself is hanging to balance the spring tension located at
the back of your guitar and the tension of your strings. Meaning, every
string set and brand has a unique tension, so it would be a pain to make
the floyd rose bridge at equilibrium.
- be consistent in your string brand and type...I use D'Addario's super
extra light strings with 0.08 diameter...really thin, isn't it? Every
time I buy 0.08 string set, the salesman always warn me that it's prone
to breaking. It's Floyd rose we're talking about so don't bother. And
actually, 0.08 would be best for Floyd Rose and 0.10 and thicker would
be bad. Bigger diameter would mean more tension so it would be bad for
the bridge and to your fingers too.
-One string at a time. If you're changing old string with new one, but
same brand and diameter would make things easier. But most people who's
not familiar with Floyd Rose removes all the old strings. If that
happens, use the whammy bar/tremolo bar and press it downward to balance
the bridge. It would be hard though, so always remember: one string at a
time.
-NO need to cut the string head (the round shape thing at the other end
of the string). I insert the string head end to the tuning peg. Because
it adds coolness I guess.
-adjust the fine tuning to middle part, to reserve for further adjustments.
-When tuning with chromatic tuner, if not exact, maintain a lower pitch, You can adjust it later with fine tuner.
With Floyd Rose, intonation won't be a too much problem, great finger
bending and feeling, great sound quality and pitch plus it has fine
tuning capability. Many hates Floyd Rose guitar just because of its
tuning difficulty...But don't be afraid with Floyd Rose guitar because
tuning is easier than you thought.
